What is the Civil Rights Coalition?
The Greater Houston Civil Rights Coalition was formed in 2011 and serves the mission of uniting diverse communities to address the pressing civil rights issues of today. Its main goal is to enhance collaboration and communication between diverse communities to create awareness, positive change, social and civic participation and becoming a Beloved Community.
When and where will the conference take place?
The conference is taking place on Saturday March 31st, 2012 from 7:45am-5pm at the Houston Community College – West Loop Campus Auditorium (5601 West Loop South Houston, Texas 77081 click here for map).
What topics will be discussed?
This year’s conference will focus on 3 main topics: Civil Liberties Post 9/11, Immigrant Rights, and Criminal Justice Reform. For more information on each topic, click here, for a schedule of the program, click here.
Who will be speaking at the conference?
This year’s keynote speaker will be Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now! . Other noted speakers include Oscar Chacon – Executive Director of the National Alliance of Latin American & Caribbean Communities, Corey Saylor – Director of Government Affairs for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, & Brent Wilkes – National Executive Director of the League of United Latin American Citizens. Who can attend the conference?
The conference is open to anyone interested in civil rights issues. Activists, scholars, organizers, community members, students, workers, faith leaders, policymakers, and anyone else interested in civil rights is encouraged to attend.

How much does it cost?
Registration is $10 ($5 for students). Registration includes a box lunch, refreshments, and all conference materials. Scholarships are available! Civil Rights are for everyone! If the registration fee is an obstacle, just leap over it with a scholarship registration. The conference won’t be the same without you.
I would like to support the conference beyond the registration fee. How can I contribute?
The conference planners are eager to furnish scholarship registrations and are counting on those who can contribute beyond the registration fee. All payments in excess of your $10 registration fees will be tax deductible. If you want to contribute an amount other than the ones listed below, after you complete this conference registration, go to the DONATE button on HPJC.org’s homepage. This will be through Paypal so be sure to designate the contribution for the CRC Conference. If paying by check, include the contribution with your registration fee.
I’m coming from out of town. What are my housing accommodations?
Unfortunately, at this time the conference cannot provide housing accommodations. However, out-of-town participants can secure their own lodging at nearby hotels. There are 2 hotels for the price of $65/night: Holiday Inn (.8 miles away) and Candlewood Suites (.4 miles away). Both do NOT provide shuttles. (Hotels not affiliated with CRC. Prices and availability subject to change).
Will childcare be provided?
Unfortunately, at this point we are unable to provide childcare assistance during the conference.
Will there be translation/interpretation at the conference?
Yes. At this point we are able to provide Spanish interpretation during the conference.
